As one of the best filming locations, the iron railings has contributed to the strong character of 5401 Olympic. If you are aiming to install one in your house as a railing to your patio or shelving, then this article is for you. We may not necessarily give you the specifics on how to install but we are here to give you details on how to care and maintain it to avoid the railing from rusting.

Understanding Wrought Iron

Wrought iron is an ornamental metal that has been molded for decorative purpose. You can see this in any house or in fancy filming locations especially those shown in Spanish eras. This has been popular for many centuries and has been used for patios, railings, and other ornamental decors. With its texture, the wrought iron can catch dust and dirt which may lead to rusting if not taken care of immediately. To help it from getting rusted and damaged, here are ways to clean it.

1.       Prepare a soap or a dish washing solution

Mix mild soap or dish washing solution or even a household cleaner with warm water. If you are cleaning a large wrought iron, you may use a bucket of this solution. For smaller items, you may use a spray bottle.

You may also work with vinegar especially if you are cleaning indoor wrought iron like those in the stairs of 5401 Olympic. The vinegar solution may be too mild for outdoor wrought irons.

2.      Remove items from the wrought iron.

If there are any items near the wrought iron, remove it. This will avoid staining the items especially if these are cushions or pillows.

3.       Soak the sponge or washcloth in the bucket or dampen it with a cleaning solution if you are using a spray bottle.

4.      Wipe the wrought iron. Do this in a circular motion. Remove excess dirt or dust one section at a time. Re-dampen your sponge when necessary. For rust, use a brush or a sand-paper.
5.      Refill the bottle with clean water.

Once done with the cleaning solution, refill the bottle with water instead for the final cleaning of your wrought iron. Make sure not cleaning solution is left in the bottle before replacing it with clean water.

6.       Dry the wrought iron completely.

For indoor items, you should wipe it clean with a dry cloth. For outdoor wrought irons you may leave it under the sun to dry.

These are steps on how to clean your wrought irons. If you plan to beauty your filming locations with these iron ornaments, then follow these steps to maintain its beauty.
